Certain actions that you do on your island give you experience points (XP). You'll know that you're earning XP when you see the pink Starfish fly up to your XP meter at the top of the screen:
Some of the actions that lets you gain XP are harvesting crops and completing orders. You'll see the pink starfish fly up to show your XP being added.
Once you meet the required amount of XP to level, you will level up! Leveling up can unlock new Workshops, Animals, Trees, Crops, Decorations, Landmarks, and Quests!
