Here is a guide on the ways to obtain Steel Ingots for the Railroad Missions.
When you collect the daily bonus from the Railroad, it drops a Rail Supply Crate. When you collect the Rail supply crate, go to your inventory and find it there. Use your Rail Supply Crate to place it on your homestead, and open it from there.
When you Open your Rail Supply Crate, it gives you 2 Steel Ingots and a chance at a Victorian Outhouse, Vistorian Gas Lamp, Victorian Iron Fence or Bench.
You can also build Steel Forges, a new crop for a chance at more Steel Ingots. Steel Forges can be given as Free Gifts, or can be bought in the marketplace for 3 Horseshoes apiece. A maximum of 10 Steel Forges can be planted on your homestead at a time. Steel Forges take 24 hours to grow.
When you harvest a Steel Forge, it gives you: 60 XP, 120 Gold, and produces either a Steel Ingot, Iron Ingot, or Steel Slag.
