Ford Taps Zynga for 'Words With Friends' Promo

Ford has teamed up with social game developer Zynga to host what it has dubbed the world's largest "Words With Friends" game to promote its 2013 Escape model.

Words With Friends is a Scrabble-like social game in which players compete against each other by creating words. It is available on Facebook, as well as iPhone and Android devices.

On Tuesday, Nov 15 (that's today), from 11pm to midnight EST, fans in the U.S. can collectively play Words With Friends against celebrity Jenny McCarthy, who will be at an event in Los Angeles. While they do, a full reveal photo of the new 2013 Ford Escape will be exposed on giant screens. The new Escape will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show tomorrow.

Crystal Worthem, manager of brand content and alliances for Ford, said players can submit word suggestions through a live-stream chat. The game will also be live-streamed at Facebook.com/fordescape and livestream.com/ford so fans at home can play along, too.

"We're calling it 'Jenny McCarthy versus the world,'" Worthem said.

Ford selected McCarthy - an actress, model, and former Playboy Playmate of the Year - because, "Number one, we wanted someone who plays the game and can be really fun," she adds.

"By revealing the new Escape through a popular social game like Words With Friends, Ford is able to expand its reach beyond traditional social channels to mobile platforms that engage a broader audience," said Matt VanDyke, director of U.S. marketing communications for Ford, in a statement.

That broader audience includes young professionals, which Worthem says is the target for this particular initiative.

Ford selected Words With Friends in particular because of its 20 million players and their passion. To drum up interest in the promotion, Worthem says Ford has done a lot of promotion within the game itself, as well as with invites on Facebook.

The Words With Friends event will be the first in a series of social gaming initiatives to be launched as part of Escape Routes, an upcoming online interactive reality series that will feature six teams of two that will travel across the country and compete in virtual and real-life challenges.

According to Worthem, Ford will begin casting for Escape Routes around the same time the vehicle is revealed on Tuesday. Escape Routes will premiere on a variety of digital platforms in Spring 2012.

Other Zynga games include CityVille, FarmVille, FrontierVille, Mafia Wars 1 and 2, and Treasure Isle.

What is The Pioneer Trail?

The Pioneer Trail is a brand new version of FrontierVille with additional lands to explore and challenges to overcome with some help from your neighbors. 

What happened to FrontierVille?

It still exists! This expansion was so massive and the experience so completely new that we decided to re-name the entire game The Pioneer Trail. 

Why do I need to install a new application to play?

Because of the fundamental differences in the new version of the game, plus the fact that we’re fundamentally changing the name, we decided to move the game to an entirely new location. What this means essentially is that you’ll be playing the same game, except that you’ll have a new bookmark (called The Pioneer Trail, notFrontierVille and Facebook application ID to play from.

But what happened to my homestead? Can I even get to it anymore?

Yes you can! Nothing has changed as far as your homestead goes—it’s still there and you still have complete access to it (it’s just under the new game name The Pioneer Trail). Nothing has been lost and all of the data for everyone is still right there. You’re not losing anything and your access will remain the same.

Will I even use my homestead anymore?

Of course! We will still be releasing a bunch of all-new features to your homestead, like the Chuck Wagon and the Bank, all of which you’ll be seeing soon! 

Can I delete my old bookmark for FrontierVille if I’m playing The Pioneer Trail?

Yes. 

What happens if I keep trying to play FrontierVille?

When you try to play the old FrontierVille game you’ll be re-directed to play the new Pioneer Trail game instead. 

So what happens when I first play The Pioneer Trail?

You’ll go straight to your homestead as normal. The entire homestead, all of your neighbors, everything is still there. However, there will be a “Travel” button on the bottom left of the screen you can use to start your adventure on the trail itself. You might also see a few pop ups referring to the trail. 

If I start my adventure on the trail, can I then go back to my homestead?

Yes you can go back to your homestead at any time!

What’s so special about being on the trail?

The trail adventure takes you and your family through a series of new maps and challenges to overcome. You earn Trail Points and Prize Tickets as rewards, which you can spend for cool prizes (that you can put on your homestead). You expend Trail Rations for energy, and you can invite your neighbors to help you out as members of your Trail Crew. You can also compete with your friends to see who has the highest overall score!

Is the trail itself just another homestead?

No it's not. It's a series of adventures you can go on, but you can always return to the homestead. Once you complete your travels on the trail, you can do it all over again for more rewards and better scores.

Installing the Pioneer Trail App

If you log into FrontierVille you may see a screen like this:

We'll be needing you to allow the instal ofl the new Pioneer Trail facebook app. Just like the pop up mentions, your homestead is waiting for you there and all you may need to do is update your bookmarks. Nothing's changed on the homestead, except you will have the ability to explore the Pioneer Trail!


You'll be taken back to your homestead and will eventually recieve a mission asking you to head out to the Pioneer Trail to help a kidnapped child!



Frontier Jack will let you know when you're ready to hit the trail!


The new Travel button will allow you to head out to the trail! A map will pop up and allow you to continue.

When getting to Beaver Valley, Frontier Jack will run you through how The Pioneer Trail works and give you some helpful pointers to help you along the way.

Why don't I have the Pioneer Trail?

Hey there partner!

We understand you have some questions about the upcoming expansion "The Pioneer Trail". Please understand that this feature will be coming to you very soon. 

We request your patience while this feature is rolled out to all players. When your account is ready for the trail, you are going to access the game as normal but you will be directed over to the new Pioneer Trail app.

You will see an image like this (with a "play now" button):

When ya see this, click the play now button and allow the new app to install That's it!! Your homestead will be waiting for you, now with the ability to head out to the Pioneer Trail!

A heads up for our new players, you will start on homestead, but you will gain access to the Pioneer Trail only after completing just a few tasks to get used to the fundamentals of the game.

For our experienced players, something to keep in mind is, this Pioneer Trail expansion will work alongside with the homestead. The homestead is NOT going anywhere! You can continue to play on homestead without needing to go over to the Pioneer Trail!!

New Feature: Animal Hospital/Doctor's Office Upgrade

The Doctor's Office is undergoing some renovations and becoming the new pet hospital! Check your Doctor's Office after you place the hospital to see if its under construction should things not go as expected!

• Must be level 24 to receive this mission set.
• The Animal Hospital is an upgrade of the doctor’s office.
• You will be able to store mystery & healed injured animals in the animal hospital.

When the following popup appears in-game, please click on "Build Hospital" to begin.



You will need the following items to complete your upgrade for the animal hospital.



Once you complete the Animal Hospital (Dr Office upgrade), you will get the following popup.



The upgraded Animal Hospital will have a rooftop where you can view the animals you’ve stored.



This is what it looks like inside the hospital (you have the option to purchase animals you are missing inside as well!)



There are also a few new critters to buy that we haven't see until today!
