"At Zynga we believe the next wave in mobile advertising will be SponsoredPLAY. Social games are one of the top entertainment activities consumers participate in on their mobile devices, and SponsoredPLAY offers a new way for brands to reward and engage users in game," said Julie Shumaker, Vice President of Global Brand Sales, Zynga. "Our new SponsoredPLAY engagement ad products deliver advertisers significant brand lift by offering players content that is rewarding, additive to gameplay and improves the overall gaming experience."
During a SponsoredPLAY beta, Zynga worked with a number of top brands such as Progressive® Insurance on a series of SponsoredPLAYexecutions. Zynga's Studio E created FarmVille-themed, partner branded, gamified ad engagements in FarmVille: Harvest Swap, FarmVille 2: Country Escape and FarmVille 2 that closely tied to the core gameplay of these games. These SponsoredPLAY ads offered players a unique way to engage with brands through new content and an experience that felt authentic to the game they were playing. Social is also at the core of these experiences, and Studio E designed them with a Twitter integration to help spread organic buzz and increase engagement.
A Studio E beta of SponsoredPLAY achieved encouraging results in a number of key areas, including:
  • The SponsoredPLAY beta saw a double digit increase in player opt-in interactions compared to interstitial video ads
  • Average time spent in SponsoredPLAY beta ads ranged between 15 and 25 seconds, which is five-to-seven times the industry average for static ads

Second EA ex employee is coming to Zynga.
After Don Mattrick and Clive Downie will be part of Zynga's team.
Good or bad move, we will see.
This will be very evil but I will say it:

It is well know at my place that when somebody is appointed for the high position, very soon after that we will get: from the new small chiefs up to new cleaners (read: friends, cousins, sons or daughters, friends of friends.....).
But that is only at my place....not in Zynga....I think...I hope!

Here it is!
Clive Downie is appointed as Chief Operating Officer

Organizational Update

Zynga CEO Don Mattrick sent the following email to employees today regarding some recent management changes.
***********************
Team,
Over the past month, I have had a chance to interact with a cross section of our employees and have been able to get a general sense of the caliber of people working here, the passion for winning and desire to get Zynga back to a strong leadership. Zynga is an amazing company and has tremendous potential for future growth. Thank you for taking the time to share your stories and business, as well as your creative and technical insights with me. On a personal level, I feel privileged to be the CEO and am more aware than ever before that the time for us to decisively move forward is now.
In parallel to these meetings, I have been working with our leaders to review different parts of our business in order to develop a set of operating principles to help reset the company. We are now calibrating against the market opportunity and developing detailed plans to achieve topline growth and improve profitability in the future.
To support the above, we are announcing today a number of changes to our organization.
We are taking layers out of the executive rank to get senior leaders closer to important product initiatives. With that in mind, I have asked the leaders to sharpen their focus and properly densify talent to resource teams.
Our studios leaders include Steve Chiang EVP Games, Villes and International, Barry Cottle, EVP Games, Social Casino, Travis Boatman, SVP Games, With Friends and Network, Tim LeTourneau, SVP Games, FarmVille, Steve Parkis, SVP Games, Midcore, Mark Skaggs, SVP Games, and Jon Tien, SVP Games, Casual.
Tech, live ops and publishing includes Nick Tornow, CTO, VP, Dorion Carroll, CIO, VP, and Adam Sussman, SVP Game Publishing (which includes distribution, direct advertising sales and ops).
Our functional area leaders are Reggie Davis, General Counsel, EVP Legal, Corporate and Business Affairs (which includes Corporate and Business Development and Communications), Mark Vranesh, CFO, EVP, and Meg Makalou, VP Human Resources.
These leaders will report to me and form our new executive team with immediate effect.
As part of the change, Cadir Lee, Colleen McCreary, and David Ko will be leaving the company to pursue other interests.  Each person has contributed to the growth of Zynga and I would like to take this opportunity to thank Cadir Lee for his dedication in the creation of a world class technical organization during his 5 year tenure, Colleen for her work with our recruitment and people process over the last 4 years and David Ko for the 3 years that he spent in leading various teams across the organization. We appreciate their contributions to Zynga’s first chapter and wish them well in their future endeavors.
With the above in place, I believe that we will have the best chance to grow, build a world class executive team and culture, establish cadence and really become committed to important priorities and opportunities for our long term success.
I look forward to sharing more detail and answering your questions at tomorrow’s All-Hands meeting.
Best,
Don

Zynga.org Brings a New Way to Play to San Francisco

Improving lives through play, and helping make cities more livable and fun. These are just a few concepts that Zynga and Zynga.org have taken to heart. We’re always looking for ways to give back to the community and help out in our own backyard. We found an amazing opportunity to partner with San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and the San Francisco Parks Alliance – as well as fellow San Francisco-based tech companies like Salesforce.com and Autodesk – on a new playground on the San Francisco waterfront.
Sue Bierman Playground
This project is near and dear to many of us at Zynga. Living and working in San Francisco, we jumped at the opportunity to work with RPD, SFPA and Friends of the Waterfront Playground to continue to make the city more livable and, as part of that effort, provide children with a new place to play and let their imaginations run wild. The playground will serve an estimated 1,000 children living nearby or going to daycare within a quarter mile of the Ferry Building, the Barbary Coast and Rincon Hill areas.
We believe play – whether via a social game or on a new playground – can be a force for social good. Enriching lives through play is an essential part of Zynga’s mission to connect the world through games. In the past year alone, Zynga employees have spent more than 2,100 hours volunteering with 22 San Francisco-based non-profits. We’ve helped build four playgrounds like this one across the country – including a new playground at the Mission YMCA – and we’re using our games like FarmVille and Words With Friends to make it easy for players to contribute to global non-profits like Save the Children, Water.org and the World Food Programme.
We’re proud to be leveling up our commitment to San Francisco, and giving our neighbors more ways to live, play and learn!
- Ken Weber, Executive Director, Zynga.org

And let us see what Marcus Pincus says to Zynga Community:

CEO Update

by  on June 3, 2013
Our Founder and CEO Mark Pincus today sent a note to employees outlining structural changes Zynga implemented today and provided some detail on cost-reductions that are taking place company-wide. Please find his note, posted in its entirety, below.
***********************************************
To our Zynga Community,
Today is a hard day for Zynga and an emotional one for every employee of our company.  We are saying painful goodbyes to about 18% of our Zynga brothers and sisters.  The impact of these layoffs will be felt across every group in the company.
None of us ever expected to face a day like today, especially when so much of our culture has been about growth. But I think we all know this is necessary to move forward. The scale that served us so well in building and delivering the leading social gaming service on the Web is now making it hard to successfully lead across mobile and multiplatform, which is where social games are going to be played.
These moves, while hard to face today, represent a proactive commitment to our mission of connecting the world through games.  Mobile and touch screens are revolutionizing gaming.  Our opportunity is to make mobile gaming truly social by offering people new, fun ways to meet, play and connect.  By reducing our cost structure today we will offer our teams the runway they need to take risks and develop these breakthrough new social experiences.
Because we’re making these moves proactively and from a position of financial strength, we can take care of laid off employees.  We’re offering generous severance packages that reflect our appreciation for all of their work and we hope this will provide a foundation as they pursue their next professional steps.
Although these are hard decisions, I’m confident that our strategy of building leading franchises and supporting them with the largest network is the right one for the long term. I’m encouraged by our recent progress.  Running With Friends is a great example of the quality player experience we can deliver, already receiving an average 4.5 app star rating from 22,700 players in less than one month after launching. Our FarmVille franchise teams continue to innovate and deliver ground breaking new social experiences like County Fair which, despite only being available on the web, is engaging 39 million monthly players.
I want to thank every one of you for the spirit, creativity and energy that you’ve invested in Zynga.  You’ve reintroduced a generation of people to gaming and through these games offered them new ways to connect with their families, make new friends and even sometimes find love.
Everyone will be affected by these changes and I’m sure there will be many follow up questions to this email.  If you have specific questions relating to your project or team, please talk to your manager.  For any other feedback or thoughts feel free to email me directly.

Facebook Groups - BUG Part 2

Facebook Groups - BUG Part 2

Few months ago Facebook had big issue with increasing friends number on their users profiles. Some, or even lot of users has this problem still.

Now, Facebook has another big problem with adding members in groups they left or even in closed or secret groups. (we posted about that yesterday).

If you wish to find any info on "Known issues on Facebook" you will waste your time. But this is what Facebook says in the BBC News article:

"Some users appear to have been re-added to groups that they have left in the past," the firm said in a statement.
"We are investigating the issue."
Until they are investigating the issue, you can leave groups you were added or re-added, by clicking on "leave group" option.

Facebook AppData - Zynga firstplaced/Mafia Wars - ouch

Facebook AppData - updated on Monday, November 5, 2012

Zynga is first placed on Developer Leaderboard

On App Leaderboard  - first placed is FarmVille2, Texas Holdem Poker 4th, Bubble Safari 7th, ChefVille 8th, Zynga Slingo 15th.
I tried to find Mafia Wars, but that was mission impossible.
So I used search option.

and here it is: Mafia Wars ranked 200. by DAU

Mafia Wars ranked 284. by MAU

This hurts!
When I've used Compare Applications option Mafia Wars is on the first place - but just because she stands the worst.

This is reality of this game. With lot of problems, no communications with players, no support....
That is sad, but  I still LOVE THIS GAME.

Zynga Platform Welcomes 4 New Games on Zynga.com and 9 New Partners

Zynga-logo
It’s been six months since we announced the Zynga Platform, a social gaming platform and network designed to bring players the most social and fun gaming experience wherever they play, while shining a light on some of the most talented developers in the industry and their games. A lot has happened since then, but our mission of connecting the world through games has not changed.
Today, we have more than 10 Zynga games live on Zynga.com . FarmVille 2, which just launched yesterday, was the first game to launch on Facebook and Zynga.com simultaneously.  We’re now excited to welcome – for the first time ever – four third party games to Zynga’s own destination for play.  The partner games live on Zynga.com today are Sava Transmedia’s Rubber TacosRocketPlay’s Sports Casino, Majesco’s Mini Putt Park and 50 Cubes’Fashion Designer.
I’m also excited to share that we have added nine new partners to the Zynga Platform, bringing us to 24 total partners, across web and mobile. Our newest partners include Antic Entertainment, Big Bite Games, CrayonPixel, Eruptive Games, JamRT, The Method, Playnery, RocketPlay and TikGames.
Our hope for the Zynga Platform goes beyond exposing our partner games to the 306 million monthly active users on the Zynga network. We want to build a true destination for play that makes it easier for our players to discover new games from different genres, while also helping our partners launch, promote, scale and grow their games.
It’s not a simple process. We spend countless hours and months before we launch games like Rubber Tacosand Sports Casino on Zynga.com, making sure our partners are fully supported with analytics, best practices, features that amp up social engagement, tech support and the like. This behind-the-scenes incubation period matters immensely – it ensures a seamless, more engaging experience for our players and what we hope will be a more successful game for our partners.
We invite you to check out these new games on www.zynga.com and Facebook. But note that this is just the tip of the iceberg for the Zynga Platform and our players. We have a steadfast focus on bringing more great games from third party developers to players in the coming months– improving the social gaming ecosystem as whole – while giving more people a reason to put a little play in their day.
