Zynga.org Brings a New Way to Play to San Francisco

Improving lives through play, and helping make cities more livable and fun. These are just a few concepts that Zynga and Zynga.org have taken to heart. We’re always looking for ways to give back to the community and help out in our own backyard. We found an amazing opportunity to partner with San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department and the San Francisco Parks Alliance – as well as fellow San Francisco-based tech companies like Salesforce.com and Autodesk – on a new playground on the San Francisco waterfront.
Sue Bierman Playground
This project is near and dear to many of us at Zynga. Living and working in San Francisco, we jumped at the opportunity to work with RPD, SFPA and Friends of the Waterfront Playground to continue to make the city more livable and, as part of that effort, provide children with a new place to play and let their imaginations run wild. The playground will serve an estimated 1,000 children living nearby or going to daycare within a quarter mile of the Ferry Building, the Barbary Coast and Rincon Hill areas.
We believe play – whether via a social game or on a new playground – can be a force for social good. Enriching lives through play is an essential part of Zynga’s mission to connect the world through games. In the past year alone, Zynga employees have spent more than 2,100 hours volunteering with 22 San Francisco-based non-profits. We’ve helped build four playgrounds like this one across the country – including a new playground at the Mission YMCA – and we’re using our games like FarmVille and Words With Friends to make it easy for players to contribute to global non-profits like Save the Children, Water.org and the World Food Programme.
We’re proud to be leveling up our commitment to San Francisco, and giving our neighbors more ways to live, play and learn!
- Ken Weber, Executive Director, Zynga.org
