It’s been more than 40 years since the founding of Earth Day – the day during which people unite to do right by the world by planting trees, picking up litter, building playgrounds and the like. This year, we’re putting a Zynga spin on Earth Day by partnering with Conservation International to give players a chance to help protect the planet simply by playing the games they love at Zynga.com.
Starting today and running through May 3, players can purchase a limited edition Earth Day “helmet” for their custom Zynga.com profile avatar, with 100 percent of the purchase price going to support Conservation International’s marine programs. Conservation International’s Global Marine Division works to conserve the ocean on a global scale and to protect the benefits oceans provide to people and animals.
With the $2 purchase of the helmet, players can literally say they’ve got the world on their mind. Their purchases will help Conservation International protect tuna breeding grounds from overfishing, mangroves that guard our shores from extreme weather, shark populations from shark finning and so much more. With the ocean providing up to 80 percent of our oxygen – or 4 out of every 5 breaths we take – this is a cause we can all get behind.
This marks the first Zynga.org charitable effort on Zynga.com, and the official unveiling of the Zynga.com avatars – a great way to add a little personal flair to your Zynga.com profile. The helmet comes with additional Zynga game coins that can be used to purchase other items on Zynga.com for your avatar including a Words With Friends T-shirt, top hat or necklace.
