Digitally Preserve Mayan Cultural Sites Before the End of the World

According to the Maya calendar, the world will end on December 21. Regardless of what you believe – end of the world or not – Zynga.org and CyArk are bringing you a fun way to help save a slice of cultural history for another 5,125 years.
CyArk is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the digital preservation of cultural heritage sites. For the past decade, CyArk has used 3D imaging and other state-of-the-art technology to create a digital library of famous historical sites including Mission Dolores, Mount Rushmore, Easter Island and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
To help CyArk with its digital preservation efforts, Zynga is bringing the beautiful scenes of El Caracol and El Castillo – both a part of Chichen Itza, one of the largest Maya cities – to Hidden Chronicles using data captured by CyArk’s own library of the historic Maya city. Now, and through the (Gregorian) New Year, players can purchase in-game, limited edition scenes of the two locations. 100 percent of the purchase price will go directly toward CyArk’s efforts to digitally preserve ancient Mayan civilizations.
